Tarpon SlideTrax News

slidetraxWe’ve received a number of questions on the new SlideTrax accessory rails available on the 2009 Tarpons. The product development team has released an official update of when and what you can expect to be available.

>> There are several development projects underway for accessories that exploit the modular capability of the Wilderness Systems SlideTrax system on our Tarpon series.

All accessories, in keeping with the design premise of the SlideTrax system will require no permanent modification to your kayak and will attach via the SlideTrax rail. They will be adjustable, repositionable, and removable, all via the same attachment system provided for the tie downs that come standard on the Tarpons.

Initial offering is scheduled to include a side-to-side Dashboard, providing a mounting surface for multiple preferred fishing accessories such as rod mounts, fish finder mounts, GPS mounts, etc. The Dashboard will be predrilled to provide easy accessory attachment and also easily drilled to accommodate any custom accessories you might have a need for. The Dashboard will be able to be slide forward or back to facilitate fishing or paddling.

A complementing accessory to the dashboard will be a Sideboard that mounts to one track, either on your right or left and is sized to mount a fishing rod holder and fish finder mount. The Sideboard will be accompanied by an optional modular transducer extension arm that will allow you to submerge the transducer off the side of your kayak when desired and retrieve it easily to minimize drag when paddling.

Like the Dashboard, the Sideboard will be easily installed, moved, and detached via the SlideTrax system, again requiring no modification to your kayak. The Transducer Arm can be attached to either the Sideboard or the Dashboard.

These SlideTrax accessories are currently in the quality assurance and field testing phase. We expect to begin delivery of these accessories in early spring, 2009.

We expect to expand the offerings for the SlideTrax system with additional predrilled mounting platforms that will easily accommodate either Scotty or RamMount rod holder bases or provide a flat mounting surface for any accessories you choose to custom outfit your boat. We anticipate these universal mounting platforms to be available in several sizes to maximize use of the SlideTrax system and will accommodate an array of accessories from cup holders to rod and paddle holders, and more.

Paddlers are encouraged to offer ideas for helpful accessories that they’d like to see for the SlideTrax. We monitor our blogs constantly and welcome any insight, feedback or inspiration you care to provide.

When are you going to come out with some bags that fit the new day hatches? I have tried some others, but nothing seems to fit!

    chad,

I noticed that there are two loops inside the hatch that we can use until or if WS ever comes out with a bag for the day hatch. There are 2 loops in the front hatch as well. I use dry boxes that I will attach with a d-ring to the loops in the hatches. Should work pretty well.

Are these SlideTrax strong enough for some kind of sailing system with a sail mount and lee boards? Are there any strength specs you can publish?

Really like the new Tarpon designs!

Love the 2009 Tarpon. Great boat love the layout and the SlideTrax. Can see alot of potential for the SlideTrax. How about cleats or stabilizers??

Are there any plans on making a bolt on version of the SlideTrax to allow folks with older boat to add the SlideTrax system? Also, I really like the transducer mount as mounting my transducer in my hull has required tweaking almost every season.
